05.08.2003 Gay Pride apparently still needed
I usually pimp my photographs on a couple of internet forums to get some feedback on my work. It helps me to retain a realistic view of my work, get inspriration from others and of course, a flattering word every now and then is nice too.
Finding the right forum is hard. I started out posting on techie forums, because those are the places I used to hang out before I got into photography. Recently I’ve been looking for photography oriented sites, so I’ve been posting at DutchPhotoZone and the dpreview forums, but both have their share of problems.
However, posting about Gay Pride on dpreview just blew me away, I can’t believe the ignorance, prejudice and pure hatred against homosexuals that some people have. Comments ranging from “You have to wonder about anyone who has an interest in gay parades and enjoys taking pictures of the participants!” to people saying “I wonder what will happen when they start having Pedophile Pride Day or Bestiality Pride Day or whatever-other-perversion Pride Day?”
I find it hard to put my feelings into words, I’m angry, sad, appalled, you name it… It’s a rough reminder that there is a far less tolerant world out there than I am used to in my safe little Amsterdam.
